Kaizen Event Plans to Revamp the Processes
Volunteers from the Industrial Commission of Ohio (IC), Bureau of Workers' Compensation, and outside interests attended the Kaizen Event held during the last week of January 2010. The purpose of the event was to devise solutions to improve the continuance and docketing processes at the IC. Volunteers used information gathered from a public forum held back in December 2009, data provided by the IC as well as information that was derived by the Kaizen process itself.
During the IC Public Forum, Steve Wall, from the Department of Administrative Services, explained the method that the IC will use to improve both processes. It’s called Kaizen — which is Japanese for “to break for the better.” This methodology is a way for workers to evaluate efficiency and make methodical, data-driven improvements resulting in a better use of people, machines and materials.
Now that the Kaizen event is complete, the solutions derived from the volunteers will be presented to the IC's administration for review and approval.
